What: drinks, snacks (provided), stimulating conversation....and a soupçon of hi-jinx, tomfoolery, and shenanigans. To steal a phrase from Boston AIGA, this happy hour is "an agenda-less, free-form gathering of area creative folk." Like that.

Who: a casually-defined group working in Maine web and software design, interaction design, user experience, usability, computer/human interaction, information architecture, new media, the aahts, games, information design, content creation, SEO/SEM, social networking, 2.0ishness, findability, taxonomy/ontology, visual design, graphic arts, video, library/info science, etc etc. {whew!!} Basically, if you think this is might be up your alley, it probably will be. If in doubt, definitely come anyway!

More background: since November we've posted events of interest at maineux.org (a work in progress to be sure). Things are unfolding modestly and slowly, allowing momentum and interest to build, and seeing what kind of interest there is for future face • to • face events (skill shares, visiting designers, far-flung visionaries, pragmatic mentor types, group design challenges, lectures, reading clubs, workshops, UX foocamp, Pecha Kucha mashups or...?) as well as virtual exchange across Maine--not just Portland. There are a lot of talented, inspired people in Maine doing extremely cool and interesting things, and it'd be great to get to know each other better, exchange ideas and strategies, bash out design problems, teach each other the latest dance steps, etc.  A listserv is coming March 1, so make sure to sign up!
